What should cities be like in the future? Should we encourage urbanization and density? Or is there a better direction to go in?

At present, the population of urban areas outnumbers the population of rural areas. Many people think this is a more efficient way to live, however, some people do not think the same. I also think like this as well; we should not encourage urbanization from now on because it can lead to lower quality of life and more social issues.

First of all, cities should not expand because it can lead to lower quality of life. According to the article, if there are more cities, it could lead to a worse life. We all know that in cities, like New York City, it is very crowded. However, what would happen if more of those cities appeared all across the world? It will mean that the available space would decrease more and more over time. Even though some people will say that this is fine, this is not fine because this can lead to bigger problems. For example, there could be a lack of space, food, and even shelter. Since more people would want to stay in the city than the rural areas, they would all look for those things in the urban areas. There would therefore be limited supplies, or worse, no supplies for certain people.

Also, excessive urbanization should not happen because lower density will help to solve social issues such as crime. If people live in places that are more spread out and separated from each other, this would lead to less crime issues. Since both buildings and people are not close together, criminals would have a hard time finding targets and would therefore harm less people. On the other hand, big, dense cities get crimes more often. If you compare the crime map of New York and New Jersey, you can clearly see how New York has more crime issues, mostly because it is a bigger, denser community. As you can see here, this proves that having denser cities is not always necessarily the best option. Instead, if we could make the rural areas a bit more developed, it would be very helpful to both society and the country.

Some people say that making more cities are better than the rural areas. However, I don’t think the same as them. They might say that if there are more cities, everything can get more convenient. However, convenience isn’t always the best. Convenience can also lead to the wrong ways. It could lead to things that could cause harm to the country. The people who declare that having more cities is better are just thinking about the status quo, while we’re thinking about the future. So that’s why making more cities isn’t a relevant thing.

In conclusion, I believe we should not encourage urbanization because it can lead to lower quality of life, and there could be social issues such as crime. I hope in the future, people will realize their mistakes and help the world by voting to develop rural areas a bit more and care more for people’s protection and comfort. Even though people may think that cities are good and convenient for the time being, it would be good if planners think about the future and think about their actions. So in conclusion, excessive urbanization should not happen.
